On Saturday, fans of Nashville indie-rock heroes Kings of Leon can check out the premiere of the group’s live performance at London’s O2 arena. The band played three sold-out shows at the iconic venue back in June, a trio of concerts that featured all of the group’s biggest hits including “Use Somebody,” “Molly’s Chambers” and “Sex on Fire” (the latter of which you can hear in an exclusive stream below). The show airs Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. ET on EPIX, the HD on-demand service on Verizon FiOS.
Though the group hails from Tennessee, Kings of Leon’s London concerts were something of a homecoming for the group, as they were massive in Europe (and especially in the U.K.) long before their breakout hit “Use Somebody” flirted with the top of the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, “Sex on Fire” holds the record for the most downloaded song in U.K. history, a tremendous feat for a group of Americans.
The triumphant London shows marked one of many huge victories for Kings of Leon in 2009. Their 2008 album Only by the Night steadily gained attention from fans on the back of the hit single “Use Somebody,” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and inspired covers from the likes of Paramore, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson and Solange Knowles. The success of that tune helped the album move 1.6 million units and landed the band on “Saturday Night Live,” “Today” and the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.
But at the end of the day, Kings of Leon’s work ethic on the road has helped them build a steady following. Their electrifying live show has made converts out of a number of high-profile fans, including “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford and Taylor Swift. It’s a truly intense live experience that fans will get to enjoy on Saturday night.
